Frequently Asked Questions

No, a Wrist MRI is painless. You may feel slight discomfort from lying still in the machine, but there’s no physical pain during the scan.

Preparation is usually minimal. You may need to remove any metal items, such as jewelry or watches. If a contrast dye is used, you may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the procedure.

An MRI of the wrist can detect ligament and tendon injuries, fractures, arthritis, ganglion cysts, soft tissue infections, and tumors.

You may need a Wrist MRI to assess wrist pain, injuries (like sprains or tears), fractures, arthritis, cysts, or infections. It’s particularly useful for soft tissue problems that aren’t visible on X-rays.
